How Can this Training Help With Anger Management?
Anger is a normal, natural, and mature human emotion experienced by virtually all humans at some time.
When it’s expressed in an uncontrolled manner physically, verbally and/or non-verbally can have many physical and mental consequences. These anger outbursts can leave everybody involved emotionally or physically damaged; it can negatively affect personal or social well-being and impact negatively on those around them.
Aggression is the negative expression of this state and people act with rage due to possible potential errors in perception and judgment.
People might express this anger as an over-protective instinct and hostility to avoid conceived losses or fear that loss. Sometimes it might arise due to a sense of entitlement and frustration if things change. Some other times people might use it as intimidation.
Anger management however can control those spontaneous fits of anger.
Holding on to anger, not admitting being angry or suppressing and bottling up anger can be destructive as that can cause long term physiological and/or psychological health problems, for example:
- Coronary heart disease
- Psychosomatic illness
- A greater likelihood of early death
Unexpressed anger may also result in pathological behavioural patterns such as:
- Passive-aggressive behaviour (e.g. getting one’s own back by covert means)
- Social isolation and withdrawal
- The development of a hostile and cynical personality
- increased job stress
- relationship problems
How This Training Can Help You to Manage Anger:
With this training, people learn to be able to express anger in an assertive manner with appropriate expression of feelings and needs without hurting others. I use cognitive behaviour hypnotherapy and teach my clients anger management techniques, relaxation techniques, and self-awareness and stress reduction techniques. For some clients this might include assertiveness training or addressing other issues that are aggravating the problem such as alcohol and/or drug abuse, or dealing with any past traumas, or overcoming grief.
If appropriate I will use the standard EMDR protocol or the EMIT protocol to target and process situations that trigger the anger.
With children, I use relaxation techniques, playful storytelling and hypnodrama to teach them how to control their anger and frustrations; they also learn how to communicate their feelings in a constructive, calm manner.
With Anger Management Therapy Training You Will:
- Understand what triggers anger
- Develop strategies to deal with anger
- Learn better communication skills with the aim of improving relationships
- Develop listening skills
- Develop skills like ‘reframing’ negative thoughts about life situations
- Get help to change your life circumstances, if necessary
